touch rugby

Touch rugby, or ‘touch’, is a non-contact derivative of rugby league, where ‘touching’ an opponent replaces a tackle. The game began in Australia as a social game in the early 1950s. It soon gained popularity through out the southern hemisphere and was adopted as a training technique and warm-up exercise by both rugby union and rugby league teams to develop skills and fitness while avoiding the inevitable injuries seen from the contact version.

The games ability to be played by all ages, both sexes, with little or no equipment required, and without fear of injury, has gained a very strong following in recent years and can now be seen played in parks across the world.

As the games popularity has increased a large number of organisations and ‘leagues’ have been launched.
